FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Where do we check in?
The Barn, which serves as our ‘main lodge’, home to our games and event centre, is also where you check-in/out. Should you need anything during your stay, we invite you to visit The Barn.
  • Can we bring our dog?
We know your pets are part of the family and welcome you to bring them along. However, due to the nature of the property as a working farm and being respectful of other guests, we only welcome pets under 20 lbs.
We require that they are kept on leash, and that you indicate that you will be bringing a pet at time of reservation. A $20 pet fee will be applied to your reservation.

  • Should we be concerned with ticks?
Like the rest of Nova Scotia, ticks are always a possibility. It is encouraged that guests wear protective sprays, and we have some for sale on-site for those who forget to bring theirs.
  • What should we bring for clothes?
As you plan for your getaway, keep in mind that you are coming to stay at our farm so bring along a pair of boots/outdoor shoes in addition to indoor shoes for within The Barn. We are nestled along the shoreline with temperatures ebbing and flowing with the tides, so we encourage guests to bring layers for comfort. As we expect you’ll be spending a good deal of time outside, bring a hat and sunscreen along with your preferred bug repellent. *If you are coming over a weekend – be sure to bring yoga gear, there just might be a class you won’t want to miss!
  • How bad are the bugs?
You're on the farm and in rural Nova Scotia, so the ‘bugs’ will depend on the time of year and weather conditions. Usually there is a breeze during the day which helps keep the bugs at bay - however we do find that at dusk some parts of the farm may have more bugs for 30 minutes. Our best advice is to be prepared for some bugs, and bring your favourite bug spray.
  • Will I need to sign a waiver?
Fossil Farm is an active farm with fully operating farm equipment. The terrain can change from day to day depending on what is being farmed, so we advise guests to be aware. Additionally, there are many activities to enjoy at the farm that can have an element of risk depending on skill level and overall health. Please note, there are no lifeguards on duty at the outdoor pool nor at the shoreline. Guests are invited to enjoy these facilities at their own risk.
  • Can we bring our own bikes and kayaks?
While we have a number of bikes and kayaks at Fossil Farms Oceanside Retreat, these are subject to availability. You are welcome to bring along your own equipment and enjoy the property.

  • Is Fossil Farms Oceanside Retreat open year round?
